Daily journal November 11, 2000, Leaving England for the USA, Millennial Dome.
This will be the last journal written in England for this trip. We arose up from our floating bed at sea and took our seats in the Mercedes Benz with the engine started for heat as we waited for the gangplank to lower to disembark on solid wet ground that finally came in about 30 minutes. The long string of vehicles and tractor-trailer trucks convoyed leaving through the gate of Holy Head Harbor docks to find our way now back to London estimated at 8 hours. Through winding roads flooded at times we drove until our eyes were so tired we stopped in the service station yard of an all night convenience store and shut off the engine to sleep and we slept for more than an hour but when we aroused, the engine would not start and run even though we tried many times. The car would crank but would not run, it would shut off before it could be engaged into gear. Finally we went inside to ask about help but we were so far from many major city and help was not possible until after daylight and then we would miss the flight. It was certainly now time to pray that this problem will go away and pray we did. It was no coincidence I am sure that when we returned to the car, it cranked and drove away. By the break of day we were at a rest stop with the food court and full breakfast and coffee again even though it may be a Sin. I'll break the habit tomorrow I did not then the next day when I can still wait without a plane to catch. Before long we joined the freeway back to London’s Gatwick Airport where we turned in the car without a scratch but the windstorm blew the trolley against the car to make a dent in the door, but the kind lady let us go without charging any more. I recommended a block of ice to pop the indention back so nice as we do after a hailstorm to fix the dents. We finally made it to the plane.
The huge Millennial Dome at the River Thames in the heart of London has been a losing proposition with cost over runs and scandals reported from the beginning. The turn out was less than expected, a lot of people were left holding the bag, especially the taxpayers as this the case always in taxing governments that know better how to spend the people's money and plan ahead to burden and indebt the population. The ridiculous rates charged by the British in their socialistic state has no bases are justification. This White Dome is their white elephant as we would say is deprived of blond and a disgrace all at the same time. Like governments are to spend they and let the poor suffer as especially at the pumps for petro. When you buy gas here and you get to pay at least 100% federal tax.
Simple matters such as street signs are in shambles. BA Public Radio reported that one tourist wrote them saying that she had trouble finding her way adding to her stress of the long flight and a long day and that uncertainty of directional signs increased her pain and I say the same. The road signs all over the U.K.seem to just drop you suddenly nowhere.
Socialism here has gone to seed and we can now know what our future is by seeing how well it has failed in Britain. I will be happy to see the sun shining again and not long after takeoff we did see it shining down on the clouds. We each had space enough to lay down fully on this flight even though it was crowded. After the long night of driving we sure do need to sleep. We arrived in Detroit one hour early and had one-hour to clear customs to catch an earlier flight to home but the system worked too slow and the airline sent the plane out early, the nonstop flight to home causing us to wait three hours for our flight to Memphis and then the propeller driven plane flight to GSP. Arriving home at midnight.

of earth, that thou shalt not take a wife unto my son of the daughters of the Canaanites".
